Places to See - The City of Refuge

Pu'uhonua o Honaunau, also called Place of Refuge, is an exceptional place with a magical feeling of the Hawaiian Kingdom as it once was. Designated a national park, it is well worth a visit. Take the time to read the little brochure as you walk through the park. The grounds along the beach have some large tide pools and the tables stand invitingly waiting for picnickers.

These temple gods guard the place of refuge and the bones of the alii once laid to rest close by (now removed to Bishop Museum in Honolulu)
Behind the temple gods, you can see Honaunau Bay where the best snorkeling over coral beds can be found
