Jobs on the Big Island

There is an some excellent overview information on the employment situation in West Hawaii on the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce website.

I could not find anything on the Hilo side regarding employment, but the site appears to be in the process of construction, and it is located on the seat of the island's local government, Hilo. Click Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce to view the site.

There is no one place to go for a complete picture of the jobs market here on the Big Island, but certainly if you are looking for employment, one place to look is the two major newspapers on the island. The most complete list of job opportunities is in the Sunday paper. If you are looking for employment in the resort industry, many of the large hotels have their own websites where you may be able to submit a resume or view positions available. Check out Outrigger and Hilton.

For Hilo and surroundings areas, please see the classifieds in The Herald Tribune.

For Kailua-Kona (Kona for short), Waikoloa, Waimea and the Kohala Coast, please see the classifieds in West Hawaii Today.

To search for a job in a given area of the State of Hawaii, try the following link: Hawaii Job Bank.

Here are some sites specific to certain types of jobs:

If you are looking for employment in a hospital, please check the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation website for West Hawaii. If you are interested in Hilo Community Hospital, just click East Hawaii at the top of the page. There is also a very popular hospital in Kamuela (or Waimea as it is also known) called North Hawaii Community Hospital.

Kaiser Permanente also has quite a presence in West Hawaii.

If you wish to work at the Keck Observatory offices located in Waimea or on top of Mauna Kea, please check out the Keck Observatory website.

Here are some other sites that might be of interest to you:

The University of Hawaii at Hilo has a website with more links to possible jobs on it.

Try the State of Hawaii Recruiting Office.

Altres Staffing, an employment placement agency, also has a site.
